LUSCIOUS PINEAPPLES…grown in Hawaii by Dole. This popular fruit is one of the Aloha State’s main crops.
This was mailed in 1960. The sender wrote: “How about flying over & doing a little Pineapple picking too? This is the land of relaxation. Great trip. Betsy & Hilda.”

WORLD’S LARGEST PINEAPPLE
Verso:
“HAWAIIAN LANDMARK—Looming high on Honolulu’s skyline is the ‘world’s largest pineapple,’ which each year guides many thousands of visitors to the world’s largest fruit cannery, home of famed Dole products. The ‘pineapple’ is actually a company-owned water reservoir—capacity 10,000 gallons.”
On the card, a line is drawn through “10,000” and “100,000” is handwritten underneath it.
New Yorkers: Imagine all of our current water towers replaced with ones shaped and painted like different fruits and vegetables. Any other ideas?

PURPLE OFFERING
A BAD POSTCARDS series in honor of WEAR PURPLE DAY
Hawaii.
That’s my purple series.
I had visions of finding wonderful fashion advertising postcards in my archives showing men and women (well…women) dressed in purple. No luck.
It’s fun to laugh at the sensibilities that pop out on the postcards of this era. As we progress (and we will), we’ll look back at today and laugh that people were still clinging on to worn-out, small-minded, absurd, destructive ideas about love and sex.
