IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE HOW BIG THINGS GROW IN NEBRASKA
Caption not mine. It’s printed on the verso.
The children at right seem very interested in how big things grow.
Another corny postcard.

GREETINGS FROM NEBRASKAland

Texas Longhorn Cattle, once counted in the millions, were almost extinct in 1920. By careful selection and breeding, the Fort Niobrara National wildlife Refuge has built up one of the finest herds to be found anywhere. It is located on State Highway 12, five miles northeast of Valentine, Nebraska.

Happy NATIVE AMERICANS’ DAY (if you live in South Dakota) or INDIGENOUS PEOPLE’S DAY (if you live in Berkeley, California).
If you want a COLUMBUS DAY bad postcard, look at LAST YEAR’S post.

INDIAN VILLAGES
All young vacationers, traveling the “West” expect to see Indians. The Mesquakie Indians own their “settlement” near Tama, Iowa and hold their annual Pow Wows during August.

DUCK HUNTING IN NEBRASKA

The Platte River and the many Sandhill Lakes on the mid-west Flyway provide some of the best duck hunting in the country.

If you don’t know that they’re decoys, it makes this funnier.

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE POLITICAL PORTRAITS
#1: Pose next to a large phallic object.

Frank B. Morrison, Nebraska’s thirty-first Governor, is pictured with the tower of Nebraska’s world famous capitol in the background. Rising majestically above the prairie, Nebraska’s capitol is a tribute to the vision and courage of the pioneers who “built a house of state where men live well.”

TAXIDERMY ROULETTE
Each morning, before Ole’s Big Game Lounge opens, a staff member rigs one of the horny heads to fall off the wall at some point during the day. If it’s the one above your booth, dinner’s on the house! (No, not really, but I would be thinking about this while chewing my tenderloin filet.)
Verso:”OLE’S BIG GAME LOUNGE…Paxton, NebraskaOle’s Big Game Lounge is among the world’s finest displays of big game trophies, personally bagged by Ole Herstedt. Trophies are from United States, Africa, South America, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Yukon, India, Samola, Siberia and Br. Honduras.”
The place still exists as Ole’s Big Game Steakhouse and Lounge.

PUNCHING CATTLE ON A JACK RABBIT
Howdy from NEBRASKA
Verso:“And out here in the West they do punch cattle. Some of them do on Broncs and, even as you can see, some of them do on the lowly Jack Rabbit.”
Lowly Jack Rabbit??? Looks like the bunny could kick any other butt on the postcard.

NEBRASKA’S LEGENDARY SANDHILLS WARRIOR RABBIT
One of many “Jackalope” postcards. I love the name given to this one.
Verso: “This unique species of wildlife has reportedly been seen by only a few people. Dwindling herds of sandhills Warrior Rabbits are thought to exist only in the beautiful Sand Hills of Nebraska. A unique specimen of this rabbit is on display in the Free Cowboy Museum at Front Street, an old west town in Ogallala, Nebraska. Photo taken on the shorres of Lake McConaughy.”
