WENDOVER WILL
Your left wrist looks a little too limp for my comfort, cowboy.
WENDOVER WILL
Wendover, NevadaStanding in front of the new modern State Line Hotel in Wendover, Nevada is this Giant Cowboy—”Wendover Will”. This friendly cowhand stands sixty-four feet high and weighs approximately nine tons. A symbolic figure of the Big West. “Will” is the largest mechanical cowboy sign in the world.

BERTHA AND TINA…
…suggest that you recommend BAD POSTCARDS for the HUMOR Directory to continue to be provided with uplifting, inspirational postcard experiences.
This act was featured at John Ascuaga’s NUGGET in Sparks (East Reno) Nevada.
Verso:
“Bertha and Tina, The Nugget’s own talented Pachyderms, presented by C. J. Madison and assisted by Diane Olson, appear on stage in the Circus Room Theater Restaurant. They have gained world attention from several appearances on the Hollywood Palace, Ed Sullivan and Steve Allen TV shows.”
There is still a J.A.’s Nugget but, alas, no Circus Room Theatre and no Elephant entertainment.
Thanks to Doug and Alyssa for their correct answers.
Alyssa is a comedian based in, of all places, Reno! Check her site.
Doug, there are no cash prizes at BAD POSTCARDS—only postcard prizes. I need my millions to buy my next condo here in NYC.
I know I didn’t offer a prize for the correct answer, but since it’s just the two of you, if you email me at bad.postcards@gmail.com with your mailing address, I will send you a genuine, vintage bad postcard from my archives. Thanks for playing!
Care to guess where this was? (I’ll fill in the blanks later this evening.)

SILVER QUEEN
Virginia City, Nevada
Virginia City is billed as the most haunted city in Nevada. If I had this “painting” in my house, I would feel haunted. The woman’s left arm is twice as long as her right, and her lip job went terribly wrong.
She’s called the “Silver Queen” (like the name of the casino). The little shiny discs are silver dollars. (See description below.)
Here are two postcards from different years. One of the cards shows a middle-aged couple posing with the Queen, identified on the back as Lee and Ruby Carel, designers and owners of the establishment. The other card shows a younger couple identified as Carroll and Jerry Eaton and they are credited as designers and owners. No family relation indicated.
Description on the Lee and Ruby card: “Designed by owners Lee and Ruby Carel as a tribute to Virginia City’s once great Silver Mining industry—an industry whose production stabilized the Federal treasury during the Civil War and later altered the world’s monetary structure. The Silver Queen’s dress contains 3,261 Silver Dollars. The belt alone contains 28 Twenty Dollar gold pieces. The picture is fifteen feet high and eight feet wide. While only a few of the coins are of Nevada (Carson City) mintage, a large percentage of them undoubtedly contain silver that was first mined thousands of feet beneath this very building. One of Nevada’s most unusual Casino displays.”
