SALMON DERBY AT WESTPORT
Beaming winners of a Salmon Derby at Westport, Washington, display their whopping catch. Westport is one of the busiest sport-fishing locales in the nation where, between mid-April and November, sports fishermen take some 130,000 fighting salmon. It’s the World’s Largest Birthday Cake, so there should be enough to go around.
Actually, this was for Paul Bunyan’s 128th Birthday and was made for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair. Here’s what the card says:
“The cake was mixed and baked by VAN DE KAMP’S HOLLAND DUTCH BAKERS, SEATTLE.
Decorations by Edison Technical School.
SOUVENIR mailaway boxed portions of the fruit cake are sold at the site and CLARK’S RESTAURANTS, Seattle.
